Medical team explains why Afua Asantewaa ended sing-a-thon: ‘Her health is important’
Afua Asantewaa's medical team has given an explanation for why they suggested she call off her bid to set a Guinness World Record after five days.
After 126 hours and 52 minutes, the journalist and former beauty queen called it quits on her effort to smash the Guinness record.
This came after Sunil Waghmare, an Indian, broke the previous record for the longest sing-a-thon in 2012 with 105 hours.
Dr. Grace Buckman, the leader of Afua's medical team, gave an explanation of the reasoning for the decision to call off the sing-a-thon, stating that Afua's health had to come first.
She pointed out that Afua was starting to exhibit symptoms of mental stress and that her lack of sleep had an impact on her bodily system.
As a person, there's only so far you can go. Dr. Buckman stated, "She has done so well and we are extremely proud of her," as cited by the Graphic Online.
As a medical team, we've come to realize how critical her health is. We want her to take a break right now so she can come back to us.
Afua is currently seeking formal validation and verification of her new record from the Guinness World Record assessors.
Her attempt to shatter the record began on December 24, 2023, and it continued for five days in a row.
In addition, a number of well-known Ghanaians have descended upon Akwaaba village to show their support for the journalist and former beauty queen.
Actors and artists who have supported her in person over the past five days include Becca, Cina Soul, Sista Afia, Kwabena Kwabena, Eno Barony, Kobi Rana, Sarkodie, and Nana Ama McBrown.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president of Ghana and leader of the ruling NPP, was also present to boost spirits for the record attempt.
